Art Machine!

This week in art2372, we worked with a machine that creates art pieces! For this assignment, we had to use a battery that made a structure move to create marks on a page of the paper. There was an assortment of materials in the classroom such as plates, cups, paint, pens, pencils, hot glue, etc. Students were able to choose the materials they wanted to use to make the art machine work. The group I was in chose to use red solo cups, frozen yogurt cups, paper towel rolls, fishing wire, masking tape, hot glue, rocks, and macking tape. I learned that, when trying to make something come alive with movement, the materials will work against you so you have to compromise when working with materials. The group I was in encountered a series of problems such as the hot glue melting the red solo cups and balancing issues. We were able to work with our variables working against us by bringing in new materials. To keep our machine balanced we brought in rocks from outside and placed the paper towel rolls in a t-stand position. This assignment was perfect for thinking about how to work when things don't go how you expect them to go. In the future, we will be making an impossible project; I feel this will be a project that would be perfect for the impossible project because there is an opportunity for growth. These tools will effectively help in the classroom and for future art pieces to create and work with tools.
